As some of you may be aware, we have run into what has proven to be an
immovable object regarding the much anticipated Ansel Adams prints of the
Tooth of Time.
Last Fall, we entered into negotiations with the Ansel Adams Publishing
Rights Trust and their authorized agent Little, Brown Publishing Company to
bring the print of the Tooth of Time to those who wanted a copy. As talks
progressed, it was, by all accounts, a done deal -- we even had an agreement
as to our cost. Thus, we announced the project in the February issue of
HIGH COUNTRY and enabled pre-delivery sales on our web site.
If you have been to our web site in the past few days and specifically to
the page regarding the Ansel Adams Prints, you know that we have now disabled
ordering and that this item is not going to be made available to us. While
the reasons that the Ansel Adams Trust gave for this last minute pullout are
numerous, the core issue is that the image that we were to use was not
considered by the Trust to be a "final proof" and, therefore, not of
sufficient quality to publish in poster format.
Like many of you, the members of the Executive Committee are more than a bit
frustrated at this turn of events. However, the Ansel Adams Trust is
willing to continue negotiations with us regarding another of Ansel Adams
photographs of the Ranch that he took at the same time that he took the Tooth
of
Time image. However, the Trust anticipates that it may be as long as two
years before that project sees the light of day.
If you have placed a pre-delivery order with the PSA, rest assured that your
money is being held in escrow and that we will begin the process of
refunding your money in the next few days.
Lastly, I would like to publicly thank Jeff Segler for his tireless efforts
on this project. Without Jeff, we would not have gotten this close to what
has been a dream of many for so many years.
Thank you,
Rice Brewer
PSA Treasurer
