Cost. They must be cared for extremely carefully. They are not flame
retardant, (usually) and they cannot be soiled in any way. Consequently
they are difficult to have around people who do not understand how fragile
they are. Most can withstand 140 mile winds and you can live in them better
than anything else for a month, but get them dirty they are an oven.
 
Most single wall tents are designed for high cold environments. They should
withstand the Philmont rain, however, they are designed for snow.
 
Any oil, grease, etc ruins their effectiveness. Light but expensive.
Great, but they must be cared for.
