Single wall tents should work pretty well in a dry climate like NM. If they
are good tents they are VERY expensive. They are probably overkill for
summer in Philmont but if you already have one why not use it and enjoy the
benefit of light wgt and they are the easiest type tent to put up dry in the
rain. Hard to do with a fly tent - almost impossible if the wind is blowing
much. But a nice Bibler or such you can pop up and as long as you don't drag
too much water in with you have a nice dry tent to get into.
