I am climbing the 46 High Peaks in the Adirondacks, 33 done and 13 to go. I
started at age 45. I looked at trekking poles and could not justify paying
manufacturer's suggested retail price. After looking and waiting, I bought
a pair at a good sale price. I have used them on probably 30 of the High
Peaks. Now, if I lost or broke one of my poles, I would immediately buy a
new set (assuming my old set was not repairable ((spelling?)) and be happy
to pay full price. The poles really work. I had three fractures of my
lower left leg as a senior in high school (skiing) and have chronic
problems with my knee as a result. Without poles I would be in real
trouble. With poles, I do alright, not fast on the trails, but alright.
