Brian,

My crew did #30 in 2000 and it was a great trek. It is not easy and you
will climb most of the major mountains at Philmont but it covers the north
and central areas plus a small area of the south. We visited Ponil (cantina
and shower) did a side hike to Wilson Mesa, climbed Baldy, Clarke Fork,
Cyphers Mine (a fun camp, esp with the stump and mine tour), climbed
Phillips, Bear (saw a bear on Bear Mt), Black and finally the Tooth (saw the
sunrise on the tooth - wow). I took a group of boys that were seasoned
backpackers since our troop does a lot of backpacking (20 miles per weekend)
and we had no problems. I will be happy to answer any specific questions
that you may have but my one suggestion to you is make sure that the adults
and scouts are prepared to do some challenging daily hikes. Not every day
will be a challenge but there are a few days that will make you wonder why
you are doing this on your "vacation". A great trek, challenging but
definitely worth it.
