I agree with Larry's assessment of the situation. I would not break Philmont
rules, but it can be done. In 1988 my crew left Clarks Fork at 3:00 AM, had
breakfast at Shafers Pass, side hiked to the top of the Tooth and walked into
Base Camp about 12:30 PM and strait into the Dining Hall for lunch. It was one
tough hike but the crew was determined to get back to Base Camp as early as
possible.
