As others have pointed out, yes it is possible. But taking a contrarian point
of view (one that I often take), what's the rush? Most of the boys will only
get to go to Philmont once. Savor the flavor! and take your time to soak up
as much of the last day as you can. Spend time on Shaffer's Peak, relish the
moments on the Tooth of Time, use it as an opportunity to do a final Thorn's
and Roses for the trek. From ToT you can see almost all of almost all of the
treks on the ranch; take a few moments and review the crew's progress over the
last 10 days.
Then you can eat your final trail lunch, or if you do get in earlier than
expected, you can catch the bus into Cimarron for pizza at Simple Simon's or
other "real food", and save the trail lunch for the folks back home.
Anyway, that's my $0.02 worth.
Happy Trails
