Yes and You need to do some work. Almost all the dinners
have meat or meat broth. If you contact Philmont they
can send you the menus and who is supplying the meal so
you can get exact ingriedients if you want. That being
said, you can bring your own substitutions from home and
package them up. Philmont will deliver them to the
commissaries in the back country for you. Provide your
own boxes and tape, leave them open at first as they
will inspect them. Your Ranger will have to help make
the arrangements.
In some cases you can make a simple change in
preparation , ie. pull off a portion of rice or noodles
before adding the meat sauce, on others you may need to
entirely replace the meal. We also had to supplement
with some extra power bars/ granola/ trail mix type
stuff since they do alot of beef sticks and meat spreads
at lunch.
If anything we like having a "special" eater. There is
more food for the rest of the group, and if you are
creative, but careful, you can get some special stuff or
extra stuff in the box sent out to the back country. (
we stuck extra coffee packs in our box and a big bag of
trail mix to share)
