First, according to everyone who has chatted with the Ranch over the
past few months, Philmont is *highly* unlikely to approve this change.
This year, "no changes" apparently means just that.
Second, you are setting yourselves up for a very tough day. If you're
going via Black Mountain Camp, you'll enjoy the North Fork Urraca "Creek
Hop" to get to NFU Camp. Otherwise, you're taking the jeep road through
Miner's Park, then up to NFU Camp, also not the funnest "trail" to use.
Your last water is at NFU Camp, unless you're willing to risk the Spring
at Shaefers Pass (which is a really bad idea, as it may be flowing at a
mere dribble, and may also be crowded with S.P. Crews trying to get
their water too). Then it's a long uphill hike to the Pass, a long
climb up Shaefers Paek, and the tough trail to Tooth Ridge. And if you
cook dinner at NFU Camp (as you should), most of that long hike will be
in the heat of the day.
In short, you would be better served to stay at NFU Camp as assigned,
rise before dawn, and leave at first light for the Tooth. You will be
much happier, and still have plenty of time on the Tooth.

Pass Camp, to Tooth Ridge Camp. It looks like this is "only" about three additional miles. Two years ago our crew hiked to the Tooth, so I know what we're in for. Has anyone done this, or any thoughts on this?
