Philmont was selling used tents this past winter and I ordered one. I
wanted our crew to be familiar with the tents and our troop can use
another lightweight tent. A Philmont tent weight 5.5 lbs including the
tent, fly, and poles. That's much better than our 8-9 pound troop
tents. We're taking Tyvek ground cloths and lightweight stakes so the
total tent weight should be a bit over 6 pounds.
We're taking our own dining fly (one pound) and will use trekking poles
to hold it up. I'm leaning toward our own cooking gear and will
probably be taking two 6 qt pots depending on the results of our
shakedowns. I've often wondered about Philmont's cooking gear list.
What in the world would we need a frying pan for?
