[Philmont]: Question for women

Men, you can skip this one........

Women have always been advised by doctors to wear cotton underwear to avoid
infection. However, the #1 rule for Philmont clothing seems to be NO
COTTON! Does that include underwear too (or is that just for guys?)
Backpacker Magazine's gear information (not the gear guide) had a great
article about clothing, and re-stated the #1 rule is NO COTTON! OK, I
decided to look into CoolMax for undergarments -- fine. Then Backpacker
Magazine just published an article specific to women's issues on extended
trips in the backcountry. They specifically stated "If you're prone to
infections, avoid synthetics as they are breeding grounds for bacteria.
Wear cotton." So what's the deal? I'd appreciate your honest opinions as I
don't want to find out the hard way!

Also would it make sense to skip the traditional brief or cycling short
style all together and go with 'loose-leg' CoolMax or synthetic running
shorts as underwear?

Thanks!
