I just received the north and central Philmont sectional maps and spe=
nt an enjoyable evening last night tracing our upcoming trek - I am s=
o ready to go! However, two things puzzled me - =0D=0A=0D=0A1. Alth=
ough the scale of the maps is supposed to be 1:24,000, the legend doe=
sn't measure out that way. One inch should be 2,000 feet, but the le=
gend measures seven-eights of an inch equals 2,000 feet. Am I missin=
g something? =0D=0A=0D=0A2. Our trek includes an evening at Upper D=
ean Cow. I found "Upper Dean Camp" on the north map, but no "Upper =
Dean Cow." Is this the same camp? =0D=0A=0D=0AI'm eager to show the=
maps to my crew, but I hesitate to do so until I get answers to thes=
e questions. I've found that you quickly lose the trust of teenagers=
if you don't have complete information. (That's my pearl of wisdom =
