For those who haven't sent in their cards yet, Patriots' Path Council has
passed on to its contingent crews the following information regarding the
impact of the 2002 fire on 2003 treks:

TREK Days Hiking in the Fire Area
  2 first 4 days
  3 first 4 days + day 9 & 10
  7 every day
  8 last 3 days
  9 first 5 days
 15 every day
 17 first 5 days + day 10 & 11
 21 first 3 days + day 7
 23 last day
 24 first 2 days + day 7 & 8
 27 first 6 days + last 2 days
 29 last 2 days
 30 first day
 31 last day
 32 first 3 days
 33 last 2 days
 35 first 7 days

The fire impacted about 20,000 acres of Philmont property. It burned in an
erratic fashion. Hopping and skipping from here to there. Consequently the
fire area is a patchwork quilt of unaffected and damaged areas. Hiking
through the area will be an interesting journey through this natural quilt
and the whimsy of nature.
