David:
I read somewhere a few years ago that Philmont discouraged additional hikes
and extending your trek because the injuries typically came from crews that
modified their treks.
Saying that, when you are at Devils wash basin, you might consider hiking to
Visto Grande for a spectacular view Baldy Mountain.
If I was your crew, I would hike to North Fork Urraca via Trail Peak
stopping at Crater Lake for spar poling and then through Miner's Park for a
possible rock climb (but do not count on it). I would try to cook dinner
there. Saying that, on your hike day at Beaubien, I would hike to Fish Camp
via PJ and up through Webster's Pass and over to Lookout Peak (there are
three false peaks). Then continue over Webster's pass and back to Beaubien.
Enjoy your trek.

Subject: [Philmont]: Trek 6 - side hikes?
We received the crew's first choice, Trek 6 in early July. While this
trek was the choice of the crew, several of the crew are mongo hikers
and want to do as many miles as possible. What possibilities are
there for side hikes and other options for these guys? [any other
comments on Trek 6?]
Thanks in advance..... David Legler
