I recently bought a Fujifilm A303. It's pretty small, has an optical zoom
and uses the same tiny memory cards Don Roberts referenced. It uses 2 AA
batteries and is pretty light. I plan to use it on our trip to the NT this
summer. The price was in the $270 ballpark if I recall. So far I love it.

THANKS for starting the thread.
I have EXACTLY the same question, and am poised to buy a digital camera for
Philmont.
I, too, welcome any input!
