David,

There is an external battery pack available for digital cameras. It will
shoot anywhere from 600 to 800 images on a single charge. it can be carried
in a side pocket on your pack, or in the fannypack. AA or AAA batteries
won't last long enough for those to be economical choices either. If you
are going to go digital, this battery pack is the only way to go.....and the
best part is -- it only costs about $ 50-$ 60.00.
