We did trek 22 starting 7/13/2001, and had a fabulous time. Here are
some notes about our adventures:
Day2 VACA short hike; 875 feet elev gain; played cards with
ranger
Day3 DEER LAKE shotgun at Harlan was outstanding; beautiful
wilderness
Day4 UTE SPRINGS side hiked to Cimarroncito for extra rock climb
(denied)
Day5 LAMBERT MINE side hiked to/from Cyphers Mine (Great mine tour!)
Day6 MT PHILLIPS worthy climb; beautiful sunset & sunrise; (note:
swapped lunch/dinner meals since "dry camp")
Day7 PORCUPINE black powder rifles & hatchet throwing at Clear Creek
FUN
Day8 BEAUBIEN hilarious campfire; great chuck wagon dinner; boot
branding
Day9 BEAUBIEN lumberjack service proj since stormed out prev day
Day10 ABREU backpacked over Trail Peak, found own trails; VERY FUN!
Day11 MINERS PARK Rock climbing excellent, but cut short due to storm
Day12 BASE CAMP Hike in down Tooth of Time outstanding way to end it
It was very fun, and quite strenuous. We covered about 80 miles in 11
days of backpacking, with the first two days being only 3.5 miles and
2.5 miles, (gradual break in). Our last three days had long hiking
miles ( 10.7, 9.8, 12.1 ), but we were pretty fit by then. Everyone
complained a bit about sore feet on the last day, hiking into base camp.
Some high points of the trip: watching the sunset on top of Mt.
Phillips (11,741 ft. elev); "mucking" our way out of a mine in total
darkness; nearly getting zapped by lightning (20 feet away, it struck a
cattle grate that we crossed not more than 10 seconds earlier. YIKES!);
spending a morning being lumberjacks, cutting down two 25 ft. tall trees
with an axe, for our service project; climbing 25 ft. tall trees on top
of Trail Peak for a view as exciting as it was majestic; devouring ice
cream back at base camp after all 80 miles was done. Our moving average
on the trail was typically 2.6 miles/hr, which meant I had to run to
catch up after stopping for pictures ( I took about 280 frames, and so
did the other adult leader.

We are doing Trek 22 starting 7/9. I did not find much on Seldon's site
about 22. Anyone have any comments on this trek?
