I don't know if you have any experience with the St. James Hotel in Cimarron
or not but we stayed there the summer before last the before our arrival to
Philmont. Based on that experience I would not recommend it to anybody. It
was way overpriced and under maintained in my personal opinion. I couldn't
sleep there comfortably.

While I have never stayed there, I would note that it is "under new owners"
since the summer before last. Both of our Autumn Adventure crews, and my
wife and I last summer, did eat dinner there, with no complaints (the first
of the AA crews was the prior owners).
My wife and I stayed at the Casa del Gavilan (Nairn Place on the older
Philmont maps), which is comparable in price but in a totally different
league regarding accommodations. Truly outstanding.
