When the St. James changed onwership back in March of 2002, it was the
biggest news in town (along with the ousting of the police chief) up to
when the fires hit in May. The former owners were not, how do I put it,
the best people in the world. Anyway, suffice it to say, now that it is
under new ownership, it is a completely different place from the past
years.
The manager is Rodger Smith. A native of Cimarron, Rodger is well known
throughout the community and very well liked. He also owns another tavern
outside of town. His sister, Sharron Smith, is responsible for dinning
room and restaurant side of the hotel. She has a graduate degree in home
economics and she also runs the sandwich deli in town, The Porch.
The St. James is once again a friendly place to go. I've never stayed in
the rooms so I can't tell you how the accomodations are, but this is
Cimarron we are talking about. You're not going to find a motel with
internet access, workout room, and indoor pool.
