My son is part of a council contingency group. There
are5 or 6 crews from the council going, I think. There
has been a lack of guidance from the council and
several boys went to Jamboree as part of the
contingency troop. Jambo was handled very well
however this leaves much to be desired. This is the
root of my problem. While I can't do much about the
past I can salvage as much as possible and let proper
people at the concil level know about the mess for the
future.
The crew my son is with consists of him, a leader
and 4 boys from a town 10 miles away and a leader and
3 boys from a troop roughly 30 miles away. The group
from the town 10 miles away "adopted" my son however
operation from the council or the group from 30 miles
away in minimal at best. We are training by ourselves
and are praying for the best after arrival at
Philmont. The other group is supposed to be training
on their own and have indicated that "they will
follow". I know this is far from ideal.
While we are behind in our training, we are trying and
will do some team building stuff prior to Philmont.
Hopefully, the scout spirit and thorns and roses will
salvage the situation if more coperation can't be
gotten prior to arrival.
Our crew has received its third choice of #8. The
group that adopted my son very much wanted the tooth
of time as part of their trek but didn't get it. This
trek was the first choice of the other part of the
group but in fairness was listed on the card as the
crews 3rd choice. I know the treks are assigned on a
first come basis. With time I hope I can bring them
around to the idea that there are no bad treks as
Philmont. The one scout that has been there did the
south country last time and will get to see some of
the central and north including Baldy on this trek.
Any advice, thoughts/experiences on this particular
trek?
Also looking at the map we brought home last time we
can't find Rich Cabins. That is one of the camps
where homesteading is the program. Does it have
another name that might be on the map?
I have follwed this message board for a while now and
know that there are some diaries posted elsewhere on
the web but didn't realize I would need the info.
Please give me that listing again.
Thanks in advance.
