You only "think" that "everyone" suggests avoiding down bags. I've got
three down bags and a couple of synthetics. Unfortunately we have 4
folks who want to use sleeping bags and we end up fighting over who gets
the down bags. I'm gonna have to buy another one.

They're light. They compress into grapefruit sized balls. They are
comfortable. Sure, they do get cold spots if they're wet, but who wants
any sleeping bag to get wet?

When they develop a synthetic that fits my wants and needs as well as
down, I'll listen. Until then....I'll use the down bags if the kids
don't grab them first.
