Kevin:

Remember please that the internet, District Roundtables, email lists, and
fireside chats are all filled with an abundance of personal opinion based on
personal experiences. A good thing, assuming you have an equal
representation of both sides of the issue.

On that note, there are a great many people who use down bags. They are
warm, pack small, and light weight. Yes, getting them wet is an issue
USUALLY if they're not packed properly.

I, on the other hand, feel as though I have to use a synthetic. I'm a very
'active' sleeper who usually ends-up snuggled to one side of the tent, or--if
on a sloping site--is hugging the bottom of the tent. No big deal, except
here in the northeast where humidity=condensation, even in the
best-ventilated tents. Add a nighttime rain, and the moisture wicks through
the tent into the bag. Again, one person's opinion based on personal
experiences.

The moral of the story: Get whatever you feel comfortable with. Both have
advantages and disadvantages. What'll work for you is what you should get.
Myself, I'll be getting a Moonstone Stratus 3D this weekend. 32 degree
rating, only 1 lb. 11oz., stuffs small, and $135.00 (includes scouter 10%
discount from retailer).

As an earlier poster said, "Don't overanalyze your gear".

Best of luck!
