Last summer because we are a coed crew, we had 8 tents. The six boys used
three tents-two youth in each tent. The two girls slept in one tent.
Because of the snoring habits of some of the adults and also because one was
female, the four adults each chose individual tents. Yes, we could have got
by with two male adults doubling up, but as compatible as we were by day, at
night we weren't. We each had super lightweight one man or two man tents.
We had no problems as a crew and our ranger (who was the greatest) expressed
no problem with our arrangement. We also could have put the one father with
son together, but this would have then left an odd youth, and we would still
have had the same number of tents.
You may also find in some of the campsites that larger tents may not fit
particularly well. Finding enough suitable ground for one or two man tents
was difficult at best. I am thinking particularly of Red Hills. After
climbing Mr. Phillips earlier in the day, we didn't want to sleep on rocks
or on an incline. It was bad enough that this camp area we were assigned
had the trail going right through our campsite.
