>From what I've seen, the Philtents only get seam sealed once during their
Phil-life. Unfortunately, they use seam sealer and not Seam grip. Every
year, new tents are bought and older tents are taken out of the rotation.
The first day of the summer, Rangers seam seal all the new tents and tie
on all the ropes. Services may seam seal some of the older tents during
the summer, but I've never seen it. I believe the lifecycle for the tents
is 4-5 years. You can buy one of the old tents from Philmont after they
have run their course. I bought one and use just the rain fly for a
simple 1 man shelter. Of course this method can't be done at Philmont.
They are fair tents. I wouldn't take one on Everest, but they serve their
role very well at Philmont. Philmont looked into using the Mega-mid one
summer, but nothing ever came of it.
