14 tent stakes is the recomended amount. However if you lose some stakes,
you can go down to 10 stakes on the Philtent. The 2 front corner stakes
on the tent body and 1 tent stake on each side of the fly can be removed
and the tent will still be useable. However I would remove the 2 corner
stakes before canibalizing the side ones. But make sure you hit the trail
with atleast 14 stakes per tent plus the Dinning fly takes 8 stakes.
I looked through my pictures and I couldn't find any of the Philtent. It
is just like the older Philtent except it is blue instead of green, it is
larger, and the dinning fly has ties for 4 places on the side instead of
2.
The trading post has sold tent stakes in the past. They have also run out
before, so I would bring stakes with me. I wouldn't buy big or heavy
stakes. Or plastic ones. Aluminum or some light weight metal work great.
The adonized aluminum Easton stakes are a bit expensive and excessive. I
have seen some people bring gutter nails, but those are heavy.
For my tent stakes, I put the pointed end of the stakes in an empty 35mm
film canister to keep from poking holes in anything.
I did find some pictues of a properly setup dinning fly if anyone would
like to see that though.
