Nothing personal, Bill, but:
Can someone explain to me why they would want this tent? It doesn't have a
vestibule. It isn't free standing. It is *heavy* (5.5 pounds *without* the
stakes?). It takes a ton of stakes.
Lots of tents that are free standing and the fly hooks to the corners so
doesn't need extra stakes, except for the vestibule. Six stakes all that is
needed, if not free standing (like my Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight, also
not free standing, but nowhere near 14 stakes, I put it up with *six* and
could get by with four). And all those ropes to deal with? None of the
variety of tents used by our scouts has ropes to tie (except in high wind).
And at 5.5 pounds, plus the weight of the stakes? why would someone want to
carry that much around? 5 pound free standing tents can be had for less
than 75 bucks.
I just don't get it. Is it simply the fact that this tent takes a real
pounding? If I proposed this tent to our boys for our usual week long
Sierra trek, they'd laugh me out of the room.
Regards
Don Roberts
