Been there, done that.

With you clarification, it then really comes down to personal preferences.

One issue to consider is multiple "courses" - I don't think I'd want to
prepare a full batch of a subsequent course in a bowl, with the spoon,
that my partner has used for a previous course.

In the event that a subsequent course (i.e. desert) had the separated
ingredients problem, one pot, which would be kept dry, could be used by
each group of two for purposes of mixing. Cleaning that pot would be
trivial.
