RE: [Philmont]: Trek # 8?

Unpredictable!

July and August are monsoon season in the southwest. Weather can change
dramatically from one hour to the next. You need to prepare for
thunderstorms, whether at base camp or during your trek. One thing that
is predictable about summer monsoon season is that the thunderstorms
typically (not always) occur during the afternoon and early evening
hours. They could last for 10 minutes or a few hours. Crews need to be
prepared for high water in creeks and washes. In addition to the rain
(and possibly hail in the higher elevations), these storms can bring
some violent lightning. Be prepared and be careful.

Could some one tell me what the weather is like in base camp during July
and August - please? Thanks. Sincerely. Jerry D Bailey

I've searched through Selden's web pages for reports on Trek 8. I found
some great pictures from July 2001 but no text. I also found links to
an unknown date report as well as a July '97 report. Both are bad (bad
gateway, page not found). I did find some very interesting July '99
description of a crew who found the 1988 crash site of an airplane.
Enjoyed reading it.

If anyone out there has recent Trek #8 experience they would be willing
to share, I'd much appreciate it.

thanks in advance.
