There have been good answers both as to film and digital. I would have to say that the bottom line is weight and what you're familar with. Even though you've got a few months to get used to a "new" camera, unless you're completely up to speed with the camera, recording what might be a boy's once in a lifetime trip should not be a time be looking at the instruction manual. How "weatherproof" the camera is should also be considered along with size, weight and format. It is an extremely personal decision and I'd love to take a 4x5 field camera, that's just not practical. I'd personally go with 35mm film since the negatives can be scanned to digital format rather than digital.

Subject: [Philmont]: Camera Suggestions

We are going to trek at Philmont this summer and I was wondering about
suggestions for a camera.

Small Lightweight?
Digital?

Thanks in advance for your comments.
