I thought I'd weigh in on cameras as well. In 2001, I carried a small
consumer-grade non-interchangable lense Nikon camera, 35mm film, with a
35-115 zoom, or thereabouts. Got some great pictures, but all had to be
printed and sharing meant poring over pictures, finding negatives, and
ordering re-prints.
When I go again in 2005, I intend to carry an Olympus C-750, which has a 10x
optical zoom and 4 MPixels. I'll likely put fresh batteries in as we leave
home and carry an extra set. For memory, I'll probably carry 3 (or 4) 128
MB cards, unless I can get a deal on 256s or 512s. Who knows what might be
available by Christmas. I currently have a Olympus C-4040 as my work camera
and I can get 130 5"x7" print quality images on a 128MB card.
In 2001, I went through 13 rolls of 24 exposure film, so over 300 exposures.
I think digital is the way to go.
Just my 2 cents worth...
