As you know ounces in the morning are pounds in the afternoon. We took 2 MSR Dragonfly stoves and 3 qt fuel bottles. We filled 2 at base camp. Didn't use all of the fuel between any of the food pick ups. The 3rd bottle was to pour fuel slowly into to keep any thing that could have been in the fuel in the filled bottle. Use your small plastic funnel to fill with. If you can find some fleece (?don't remember exactly it was that was used to line the filter with) to line the bottom of the funnel with this will help filter things out of the fuel. Water sometimes can make your stove cough a little. Your usage of fuel depends on how your people cook the suppers & if you use the stoves to heat water in the mornings or not. Steve.

If commissaries have white gas on hand and as I understand it, you stop at a commissary to pick up food supplies, how important is it to carry extra bottles of gas along the way? Just trying to lighten the load. If we have a fuel bottle per stove and we have a stove for every group of four and you have two stops for food along the way, is that going to cover us?

Nothing is really available at Staff Camps, except in an emergency (saved an adult once at Crooked Creek with Imonium AD). Commissaries have essentials available. Stamps, white gas, post cards, etc. Used to sell junk food (ahh, junk food!!!) but no longer. Fruit and other wholesome items. Mostly there for food distribution.
