I agree with Dr. Bob. On our last trek several scouts took cameras but they were seldom used. I took a good 35mm with zoom and took a lot of picture, some scenery, some people, some combinations, even one of a food bowl full of hail, with a spoon stuck in it, at Baldy Town (turned out to be one of the favorite crew picture). I don't claim to be an expert but, with a diligent effort, we ended up with a lot of high quality pictures and some not so good but everyone got to share them. I put them on CD so anyone that wanted them could get copies.

To provide the contrarian view, I cannot tell you how many dozens of
times I have seen every member of a Crew taking the exact same photo
side by side. And my personal experience is that most Scout photos are
landfill unless the Scout is well trained or truly gifted (yes, some
people have the knack; most don't). If you're trying to save money,
save weight, save yet another set of bear-bag items, and gather a
collection of truly worthwhile shots, you're better off having two or
three quality cameras being run by people who have a clue, and are
motivated to do the job.
