HERE! HERE! HERE!

Jim I could not agree with you more on this issue and concept.
As a Philmont veteran with many treks, and a 25 year scouter, (yes, Eagle
Scout son), I have been lurking and commenting occasionally, on this board for 2
over years. I must say that there have been times when I quietly did not agree
with your comments Jim, but on this one, you are so DEAD-ON it hurts!!! I
have found myself guilty at times of attempting to create that perfect
experience.

Lightweight this, one-tenth of an ounce that, the best equipment here, and
the most detailed maps there, etc. etc. I have often wondered if there is such a
thing as being "over prepared". This is not saying that common sense and
safety and other such issues are not of paramount importance, but are we at times
getting too wrapped up in the details and not enjoying the journey, both for
ourselves and the youth we are here to help learn leadership, develop good
character, and promote strong citizenship. That is a tough job description! Only
time will tell if we have been successful and there is no "right way" to do
that. It differs for each of us. Therein rests the beauty of the Boy Scout
Program.

The discussion on this board is terrific, great ideas and tips have changed
hands and influenced myself and I am sure many others. I know it will continue
and the Scout Oath and Law will be our guide. So, that's my $.02
