In 2001, I took James Michener's 'Centennial', about the settling of the
West (OK, it was set in Colorado, but that's only one state away!). I'd
read it before, but picked up a used paperback copy at home before I
went. Michener books are THICK, so to lighten the load I disposed of
chapters along the trek, making the load lighter as I went.
