Re: [Philmont]: favorite things, and what I missed

I too, like to read, and I solved the 'problem' with book weight by
bringing a paperback (which wasn't really all that heavy), and tearing out
chapters as I finished them. If you have a book others like, they'll be
happy to take them off your hands! In my case, it was James Herriot's book
of dog stores, all short stories, so it didn't matter where anyone else
started. At the end of the trek, I got the pieces back and glued it back
together -- one of my scouts now has it for his reading merit badge. We got
a lot of mileage out of that 25 cent garage sale book!

Other favorite items:
Lightweight fleece gloves (it was COLD and rainy in June 2003!)
Fleece hat (same reason as above)
Leatherman micra
The fact that both of my sons (Eagles :-) and my husband were able to be
there - our Tooth of Time pic. became our family Christmas card last year

For all of you with 2004 treks -- ENJOY!
Jill

favorites:
(not including the cool people I went with)
trekking poles
a nice lightweight, but comfortable, aluminum stool
a beach ball (my own idea)
missed:
the digital camera stolen by delta airline employee
reading material (I am an addict. When we spent two days at Beaubein I
really wanted to put my feet on that railing and read a good book while the
boys played chess. The staff had 1 book, and 2 questionable magazines. I
have not solved this yet for our return in July. weight v. book.)
