My top 5 items to take in addition to those on the normal equipment
list:
1. My wife, Linda (she has been on 13 of my 14 trips to Philmont)
2. Long back Crazy Creek chair
2. Full length Thermarest Ultralite sleeping pad
4. ThermaNest sleeping bag (it has a sleeve in which the pad fits)
5. Extra AP paper (if you run out once, you'll do this too)
Top 10 Philmont "Words of Wisdom" to Ignore:
10. Supper will be at 7 p.m. in the dining hall.
9. The seams on the tents were sealed last week.
8. Just follow the trail and it will take you right to camp.
7. It doesn't rain in June.
6. The mountain air dries wet clothes quickly.
5. Don't worry, you'll get accustomed to the altitude.
4. That camp is only a mile from here.
3. It's all downhill from here.
2. Hey dummy, you won't need both a jacket AND a sweater.
1. Smile, it's only 30 minutes to where you guys are going.
Top 10 Things to be Thankful for at Philmont:
10. Dry boots.
9. Scouts who actually take showers.
8. Water that doesn't need to be purified.
7. A dry sleeping bag in a tent that doesn't leak.
6. MSR Whisperlite Stoves.
5. Linda's magic pancakes and bacon. (unfortunately, no longer included
in one of the breakfast meals)
4. Spices for the trail food.
3. Advil.
2. Latrines with walls.
1. Moleskin, moleskin and more moleskin.
