Pete,

The first three stops on your trek (Old Abreu, Crags and Fish Camp) are
along Rayado Creek and it offers some nice fishing for smaller rainbows,
browns and cuts. We brought a few 2-weight 7' 6" fly rods and a small
assortment of popular flies (dries, nymphs). The fish were not very
selective until you try to fish in the general vicinity of Fish Camp. On
your way to Lost Cabin you will follow the Agua Fria which is a small
feeder stream to Rayado and worthy of fishing as well. You can purchase
a day or multi day permit at Base Camp or Old Abreu. Philmont promotes
catch and release. Ultra light gear will probably work ok, though
Philmont may have some restrictions in the Fish Camp area since you are
learning to fly fish there. Send me an email if you want more details.

Tight lines,

Mark

Subject: [Philmont]: Re: Trek 12 Fishing oppurtunity...

Our Crew has just selected and received Trek 12. I understand there are
many chances to fish along this trek. Does anyone know what type of
gear (fly rod weight, size of flies, dry vs. wet) that might be best?
Can ultra light spinning gear be used?

Thanks
