Made a big difference for me (both up and down). Takes some weight/stress off the legs. Hiked with 2 poles much of the time. Handy for pitching the tarp too.

Subject: [Philmont]: Trekking Poles?

Does anyone have a strong feeling, one way or the other, about using
trekking poles? Do they really make it easier?
