RE: [Philmont]: RE: Vitamin C & Polar Pure

In 1994, Dr. Bob and I were conducting training for our council and he
casually mentioned that sugar (drink mix) in the water bottle will
interact with the iodine leaving the bugs alone. I was shocked to learn
this but he thought that everyone knew this. Dr. Bob is a Dr. of
Chemistry.

Hopefully he will reiterate his dissertation on the subject. All I know
is that purify the water first and then mix the drink.

It's my understanding that you shouldn't add the vitamin C (or anything
eklse, for that matter) until after the Polar Pure has done it's job
killing
the bugs. I don't know the exact chemistry, but apparently the vitamin
C
will "lock up" the iodine in the Polar Pure and render it pretty much
useless.
