Subject: [Philmont]: Trekking Poles
I highly recommend trekking poles. They have saved me from falling more
than once. The give me an extra push on uphill hikes and save my knees
(most important) on down hills. Lengthen the poles for downhill. I
wouldn't go without them. If you haven't used them you should practice with
them. Before long they become automatic. You almost forget that you are
using them.
We used my Komperdell poles to support the dining fly but wanted to have a
little more height than my poles, fully extended, allowed. I discovered
that the aluminum poles that extend from a timberline tent frame to support
the fly are exactly the right length and diameter to work with Komperdell
poles and gave just the right extension to the hiking poles. Your results
may vary.

See you at Philmont from July 17-August 1, Trek 30.
