I have Red Ledge. My daughter has Precip. Both of us stay dry when the others in our crew are wet and clammy.
Either is a great choice. Neither is the answer for all day downpours. Don't expect to stay dry in the all-day messes.

Subject: Re: [Philmont]: Raingear
I second Mike's advice on raingear. I have the Marmot Precip and love it. However the price can be a little steep for those who do not backpack as a hobby. I would like to suggest a less expensive alternative. I have really impressed by the Red Ledge Thunderlight rain jacket and pants. I guess Philmont is because they carry Red Ledge raingear at the Tooth of Time Traders; jacket-$35 and pants-$25, a great buy in my opinion.
I went to Google and took and got this description of Red Ledge's breathability. "TH-4 is Red Ledge's proprietary, high tech polyurethane coating. It is microporous and has vapor permeable layers. Being hundreds of times larger than water vapor, the pores allow this fabric to breathe while effectively keeping out the even larger rain droplets. The bottom line ... outside water doesn't soak through, yet perspiration won't tend to condense inside the garment. Keep dry, and at a great price."
