Poles: I asked for them for Christmas because I didn't need anymore loud ties. Really helped a lot. Use them on shakedowns since your arms need to get in shape to use them.
Raingear: FYI Campmor has readledge youth sizes on sale for $7.97 for each piece.
Laundry: I don't recall any circumstance where washing your clothes was allowed on the trail. We went in 2001 and didn't even get a shower. The sumps are for stained dishwater. That leaves drinking the laundry water or breaking the rules. Water is a precious resource at camp and should always be conserved on the trail.
