An alternative to going commando is hiking in swim shorts. They have a mesh
liner that serves as the underwear but are very much designed to dry out
when wet.

Cotton underwear is probably at the root of all the chafing issues.
Sweat, cotton underwear and lots of walking don't go well together.
Has anyone found a nylon or wicking-type material for underwear that works
best in this situation? I've even heard where guys go "commando". Not sure
I'm up for that, but if it prevents the inevitable problems, maybe it's
worth trying. Besides, how much different is going "commando" from wearing
boxer shorts?
