My son was significantly underweight and they did not even raise an eyebrow.
125 on a 6 foot frame...
Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Philmont medical (no substitutes
allowed) must be completed in the same calendar year as the expedition. Has
something changed?

Both should be fine, Philmont will do a medical recheck upon arrival. The
advisor will be checked and should be allowed on the trail. If I were him
though a quick visit to the doctor to update the form might be in order.
The underweight scout should only be an issue in that his pack will need
to be about 1/3 of his weight. That may increase the load of other crew
members.... Crew leader will have to deal with issue....

Two questions for our 608-E crews this summer:
1. Being under weight limit is at Philmont, rather than on your medical
form? One of our leaders has been working on getting his weight down to
acceptable, but it was still above limit when he had his physical last
August. We're presuming it is his weight upon re-check that counts. He is
under limit now and still dropping.
2. A scout has the opposite issue. His weight is well below the range for
his height (25 pounds). Does Philmont Health Lodge worry about youth who
are "underweight" if their physician otherwise clears them for the activity?
If these questions need to be posed to someone at Philmont, who should I
contact?
Thx,
M.
