To reply to both your emails, Rob:

Soccer ball bags - not very water resistant. We purchased bear bags for our
shakedowns from www.gemplers.com as advised by this list last year. They
are woven polypropylene bags like Philmont uses, and cheap (about $17 for 25
bags). I think the size was 22"x36". We did not bring them to Philmont,
using their bags was easier, just used them for our shakedowns.

Tarp - we bought a Kelty Noah's tarp (12x12) from www.campmor.com for about
$60. Saved about 2.5 lbs, but if we did not have one, Philmont's would have
worked fine too.

Tents - We had the same situation, 9 boys, 3 advisors, and used three 4 man
tents for the boys and 1 for advisors and this worked well. If you don't
have enough 4 mans, using 3 Philmont tents and 2-4 mans would work fine too.
Weight was a little less (.5-1 lb) for 3 people splitting up a 4 man tent
than 2 people splitting a two man. Generally one carried the ground cloth,
one the rainfly, and one the tent. We did not bring the vestibules, although
I might rethink that next time.

The lesson I learned was there are many opinions and personal preferences
that can make you wonder if you prepared properly, and give you a wealth of
knowledge, but just make sure you can keep warm, fairly dry, healthy, be
able to boil water, and have the time of your life.

What I would really like as answers here are a list:
Bear bags - soccer ball bags cost $$ saved X lbs.
Tarp - we got ours from YYY cost $$ saved X lbs.

We have a crew with 9 boys and 3 advisors. Is it reasonable to take two 4
man tents, one for 3 boys and one for the 3 advisors or will this cause real
problems finding tent sites? The rest of the crew will be using Philtents.
Thanks for your help.
