I am interested in hearing from those of you who have attended Philmont's
Autumn Adventure. Did you enjoy the week? Did you miss being with the
younger Scouts? Did all the geezers get along? Was the absence of program
events a big detractor? Would you do it again or wait for a slot with a
crew during the summer?

Comments...

First did Autumn Adventure in 2000. It is now an every other year routine.
Four from the crew of seven in 2000 went again in 2002, with six new crew
members. Seven of those ten were in our crew of eleven in 2004. All eleven
from 2004 plus one other from 2002 and six more are on the tentative crew
list for 2006 (two crews, if that number holds.) There were issues with one
crew member not being prepared each of the first two trips, but other than
that it is a group that enjoys each other's company. Most of the core knew
one another from the Council High Adventure Committee, and have since
brought in others from our troops.

All three trips have been fantastic. No one mentioned missing the youth,
and literally being away from it all for a week is great.

Most, though not all, of the crew members have multiple summer treks under
their belt. But only a few since 2000 - we now tend to help prepare crews
and leave the adult slots to those with sons or daughters on the treks. And
that no longer applies to most of us.
