Right on Roy. I have watched this thread for a while and in 6 treks, have never needed to carry 5 quarts a piece. Roy is absolutely correct when it comes to knowing where your next water supply is. Based on this year's winter, my guess is that even the unreliable spring at Schaffers Pass will be flowing. Read the water board before you go out. Know where your next water source is. Remember, the data on the water board is current today so be sure to talk to other crews that pass you in the opposite direction about water ahead. Eat supper for lunch at your last water source before going into a dry camp. The next morning, get out of camp and eat your breakfast at your next water source. The driest trek at Philmont is coming in over Tooth Ridge, so refill at each water source on your way to the ridge. Ask the camp staff how the water is running at the ridge before heading up.
