RE: [Philmont]: Water for dry camps

We have each crew member carry 3 nalgenes or equivalent capacity if
using a hydration system. Each crew member also carries a 2 or 3 quart
collapsible (Nalgene Canteen or similar) for going into dry camps and to
carry some extra water for that long dry hike in over the tooth if you
are starting at Clark's Fork or Miners Park. I think it makes it much
easier to spread the water out.

Cooking a dinner at lunch when you are near water and eating your lunch
for dinner at a dry camp reduces water needs. We have cooked two
dinners on an easy hiking day when we were near water and saved the
lunches for a long hiking day ending at a dry camp. Sometimes you can
get the commissary to swap a dinner for a lunch when you do a food
pickup.

Just wondering how you carry twice the water for dry camps. do you use
the three 2.5 gallon containers you are supposed to bring, or do you use
3 liter platypus or nalgene canteens for each crew members. Seems like
carrying that 2.5 gallon container would be a real pain!
