Carrying a 2.5-gallon container IS a real pain. What I recommend is that
each crew member carry a 1-liter roll-up canteen (Nalgene makes a good
one) this is in addition to their regular water supply. On days when
extra water isnt needed, the canteen is rolled up and weighs next to
nothing. On days when you do need to carry extra water, the load is then
distributed evenly among everyone. That seems to be the best solution Ive
found over the years.

Subject: [Philmont]: Water for dry camps
Just wondering how you carry twice the water for dry camps. do you use the
three 2.5 gallon containers you are supposed to bring, or do you use 3 liter
platypus or nalgene canteens for each crew members. Seems like carrying
that 2.5 gallon container would be a real pain!
