We had each of our folks carry the collapsable 3-L plastic canteens by Nalgene in addition to their
normal hydration systems of sipper tubes or other 1-L bottles. It was much more manageable than the
large 2.5 gallon containers. Because everyone was carrying one, there was nothing to complain about
carrying a huge amount of extra weight and no sniping back and forth between the crew leader and
other crew members about water buffalo assignments. We didn't have to worry about someone
dropping and rupturing it out of exhaustion, either. We used the 3-L bottles to quickly prepare water for
the entire crew when we got to camp each day on our 2004 trek using one of the chlorine dioxide
systems for water purification (again, double duty item).

> Just wondering how you carry twice the water for dry camps. do you use the three 2.5 gallon
containers you are supposed to bring, or do you use 3 liter platypus or nalgene canteens for each crew
members. Seems like carrying that 2.5 gallon container would be a real pain!
